Food waste changes in the Swedish public catering sector in relation to global reduction targets

Global food waste reductions are difficult to evaluate. The global ambition is halve by 2030. In this study, eight years of quantification data from Swedish public catering were used monitor changes and evaluate progress towards reduction targets. A 15–30% was observed the current trend a declining level within sector. goal halving 2030 appears be achievable, provided that all canteens perform in line with those studied. However, studied may represent best-performing, so actual change or levels have been underestimated. present situation (2020) approximately 19,000–21,000 tonnes generated annually preschools schools. Therefore, these establishments need appropriate tools progress, incentives encouraging them continue reducing waste.
